Here in the old bridge-guard’s cottage by the lock in Hajstorp, 5 km outside Töreboda, the potter, Marianne Ljungström, runs the Hajstorp Lock Café and Hostel.

Take a seat, enjoy the authentic canal milieu and coffee served in handmade mugs. Ice cream and light lunches are also served here. In the café we believe in organic, locally produced and Fairtrade. Adjoining Hajstorp Lock Café is a stand for motorhomes and caravans, a charming hostel and three small cottages.

Breakfast

Lock navigation for breakfast! Begin the day with our breakfast watching the boats passing through the lock

Our organic breakfast can be booked during the summer season. It is served in the Lock Café 08.30 to 09.30. Breakfast comprises bread, butter, cold cuts, eggs, buttermilk, yoghurt, our famous little porridge, juice and more. A satisfying breakfast for an active day.

We can always offer options for those with allergies. Just let us know and we’ll do what we can to accommodate you.

Great cakes, pastries, Kling ice cream and sandwiches are for sale in our Lock Café. Sitting on our terrace by the Göta Canal looking down on the boats passing through the locks is a delight for our guests. When we can, we bake some of the cakes ourselves, and then we always choose organic, Fairtrade and locally produced ingredients.

We also have bread for those who are gluten or lactose/milk intolerant. Kling’s wonderful ice cream comes from Mariestad, just 20 km away. Ice cream is scooped into cones or ceramic bowls.

All the ceramics in the Lock Café are produced by the potter Marianne Ljungström who also runs the Hajstorp Lock Café & Hostel.

Lunch

Join us for a light lunch such as quiche, salad or soup. We also serve more substantial open sandwiches with meatballs or prawns. Our own Sméhalva is a half bread bun topped with local cold cuts.

Ice cream

Many of our guests come specially to eat the delicious ice cream from Kling’s Glass in Mariestad. We scoop the ice cream into cones or serve it in ceramic bowls. It tastes better that way and we also save the environment.

Welcome to Hajstorp Lock Café and to potter Marianne Ljungström, who runs the café in the old bridge-guard’s cottage by the lock in Hajstorp. Take a seat, enjoy the authentic canal milieu and coffee in the handmade mugs. Here you can have a snack or a piece of warm quiche, or just stop for an ice cream and relax for a while. Quality, in the form of locally produced, organic and Fairtrade-labelled ingredients, is important to our café.
